I like the Marcus Brigstocke comment about the BBC in the Now Show, whose originator is Mitch Benn. I paraphrase, but the intent remains the same.

The BBC is not a taxi service; it's a bus. In return for the license fee, you get to be informed about many things that have nothing to do with editorial slant. But when they are delivered in that manner, the individual does not get to determine where the bus goes. It has a route already established.

And like the bus service, after a certain hour it gets a bit more blue. Good. It should. Some of us like that. And some of us love that. Individuals don't get to choose where the bus goes.

Interesting points regarding the BBC. The only areas where I have an axe to grind with Auntie are (predictably enough) news & current affairs, where even a pretence at balance is but a dim and distant memory.

Everything else I'm perfectly satisfied with. Were some means available to rectify the appalling state of journalism and shoddy reportage then i'd continue to choke up the license tax without demur.
